Kyanite derives its name from the Greek word “kyanos”, meaning deep blue. It is found in aluminium-rich metamorphic pegmatites or sedimentary rocks. Kyanite is also known as disthene, rhaeticite and cyanite. Kyanite is strongly anisotropic, in that its hardness varies depending on its crystallographic direction. In kyanite, this anisotropism can be considered an identifying characteristic.
In the metaphysical world, blue kyanite helps open psychic ability, enhances telepathic communication, and assists in lucid dreaming. Kyanite is one of two minerals (the other being Citrine) on the planet that neither accumulates nor retains negative energy, and therefore never needs cleansing. It cuts through fears and blockages, helping to speak one’s truth.
