The blue wildebeest is native to Africa and is also known as the common wildebeest, white-bearded wildebeest or brindled gnu. The blue wildebeest is a large antelope and one of two types of wildebeest. It has a front-heavy muscular appearance and a distinctive robust muzzle. When they are young, they tend to be a tawny brown and after two months begin to develop their adult coloration of bluish gray to deep slate.
Wildebeests are herbivores and primarily feed on short grasses. They are fast runners and each year partake in a long-distance migration that is seemingly timed to coincide with local patterns of rainfall and grass growth. The blue wildebeest has an estimated population of around 1.5 million with a stable population trend. Blue wildebeest are found in short grass plains bordering bush-covered acacia savannas in southern and eastern Africa, thriving in areas that are neither too wet nor too arid.
These wildebeest skull plates have horns that vary in size from animal to animal and will range from 18″ to 20″ collectively measured at the longest points. They are great for rustic cabin decor and are great conversation pieces.
Please keep in mind that these are not replicas and will therefore have natural imperfections such as battle scars and blemishes. No two skull plates will be identical, and not all plates stand perfectly on their own.
