Goldstone is a type of glittering glass, also known as aventurine glass. It is made in low-oxygen reducing atmosphere and can be polished carved into beads, figurines, or other artifacts suitable for semiprecious stones. Goldstone is known for its deep red brown coloration and sparkling appearance. It is typically a reddish brown color but also comes in green, blue, and purple. It contains flecks of copper suspended in it, which give it a glimmering effect.
Goldstone is believed to be originally created by French monks by chance. This is where it gets its name Aventurine, from the Italian avventurina (from avventura, meaning adventure or chance). In the 17th century, a manufacturing process for goldstone was invented in Venice by the Miotti family who were granted an exclusive license by the Doge. Over time this secret process was lost. It’s been recreated in modern times, though, and is a popular material because of its beauty as well as its metaphysical properties. Goldstone shares Copper’s metaphysical properties: attracting abundance, harmonizing relationships, and creativity. Goldstone’s coppery brown also connects it to the second or sacral chakra, located on the spine at the level of the pubic bone. It represents water, sexuality, and the unconscious. Goldstone is believed to balance pleasure and help transmute heavy emotions.
