This yellow flying lizard preserved specimen is a fascinating gift for anyone who loves nature and taxidermy. Yellow flying lizards are apart of the genus Draco, and are also are known as flying dragons. The flying lizard has a bright coloring which aids them by tricking potential prey into erroneously believing they are poisonous.
These lizards are well known for their ability to glide long distances using their wing-like membranes supported by elongated thoracic ribs to generate lift forces. These so-called flying dragons have a set of elongated ribs, which they can extend and retract. Between these ribs are folds of skin that rest flat against the body when not in use, but act as wings when unfurled, allowing the Draco to catch the wind and glide. The lizards use their long, slender tails to steer themselves. While not capable of powered flight they often obtain lift in the course of their gliding flights that can take them from distances up to 200 feet.
Flying Lizards only venture to the ground when a female is ready to lay her legs. She descends the tree she is on to make a nest hole by shoving her head into soil. After guarding her eggs for 24 hours, she leaves and never again has contact with her offspring. These lizard preserved specimens are great as teaching tools and as home decor when mounted. Please keep in mind that because you will be receiving a real lizard preserved specimen, variations in color and size are to be expected.
