• Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon) is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 2.6 million years ago and is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators to have ever lived, reaching lengths of 59 feet (the average length closer to 34 feet)
• The Megalodon, meaning big tooth, had teeth that were thick and robust, built for grabbing prey and breaking bone. Their large jaws that could exert a bite force of up to 110,000 to 180,000 newtons
