Description

• Discovered in 1944 on Iwagi Islet in southwestern Japan, the first known sugilites were actually tiny, yellow crystals. In 1975, a manganese mine near Hotazel, South Africa revealed a thin seam of sugilite that had enough manganese content to give it a deep purple color. Small but significant, the deposit became the first source of gem-quality sugilite and launched the gem’s now famous association with purple
• Sugilite typically occurs as a pale lavender, light brownish yellow, intense reddish violet (manganiferous) purplish, or dark rose-red. Sugilite often contains a black, gray or green matrix, and reddish brown or yellowish blotches
• These tumbled stones can range in size from roughly .75-1.25″ long and .5-.75″ at the widest points
• These are real specimens so variations in color, shape and size should be expected
• You will receive four tumbled sugilite stones similar to the reference specimens
